dark knight

back from the dark night movie. man, it was great fun. i won't stick any spoilers here but it was a fun ride. heath ledger, gary oldman were great. gyllanhall was better than katie but just barely.

the story was exciting and the interplay between the joker and batman much like the comics; you can tell the nolan brothers are fans.

the only cringe-worthy moments are when they try to go along with real-world technology instead of sticking to make-believe.

after a point, you're not sure WHERE the story is going. literally anything can happen and of the plot twists the only one that doesn't work is the BIGGEST and that's because of the trailers. many people won't spot it. the two people i went with didn't so you might be ok.

the dark night joker prologue i talked about seeing in high def a couple days ago actually is the first few minutes of the movie. since i saw it in HD on my wide screen tv with surround sound (the clip was 5.1) it put me in a unique position of direct comparison between, for the first time, a top-of-the-line video transfer vs a movie theatre experience. usually i'll see a dvd (or blu-ray now) months after i've seen the movie in the theatre.

disappointingly, both the sound and the video were BETTER on my mid-level home theatre setup. i saw dark knight at the AMC 25 in times square.

so while i might have gone again, i think i'll wait it out now.

You should go see it in IMAX if you can. The first sequence is shot in IMAX resolution as is the car chase in the middle of the movie with the SWAT team. It's pretty impressive in that format.
